Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans.
Party shenanigans. January 2004. Columbia Theological Seminary. We future Presbyterian pastors decided that we should celebrate the New Year by officially recognizing the birthday of Ulrich Zwingli since he gets overlooked by hot-shot Reformers like Luther and Calvin. So we threw a party. It was a lot of fun. Everyone “dressed up”, i.e. T-shirts with ties and jackets or 80s prom dresses. We also hung up a disco ball and danced to Hey Ya by OutKast a million times. And we like any good Reformers of old, we enjoyed a good beverage or two.
Nowadays, the closest I get to “party shenanigans” is gatherings with S3 group which includes 7 kids under the age of 4, or Katie’s birthday parties. Of course, I wouldn’t trade these new experiences and moments for anything in the world. Celebrating Katie’s 2nd birthday is the party that rocked my socks off in 2010. Could there be anything more fun than a Curious George themed-bash with stickers, balloons, ice cream, a yellow cake with a plastic George figurine and a 2-year-old girl in a hand-made CG smocked dress (given by her Pops).
On top of that, we had the opportunity to see Uncle Ben and Aunt Rachel, our S3 friends and Katie’s godmother Lindsey Wade. I look forward to many more of these social gatherings in the future.
